What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is one of the most common breast operations in the Netherlands and our specialised doctors* will gladly help you.

The breasts play an important role when it comes to the appearance of a woman. Women can feel insecure about their breasts, and our experience tells us that a breast lift can have a big, positive effect on a woman’s self-confidence. Some reasons why women can struggle with the shape of the breasts are:

  • Increase or decrease in weight – the breasts may start to hang after a pregnancy
  • Breasts that are too heavy that can cause back, shoulder or neck problems
  • Psychological reasons – you might feel insecure if you feel that your breasts are too small or too big.

*The doctor will determine if the treatment is necessary for medical reasons. * This treatment falls within the tax-exempt medical care as stated in article. 11-1-g Tax Law, 1968.

How is a breast lift done?

When performing a breast lift, excess skin is removed from the breast. This means that the breast will end up being a little smaller. This is also why a small implant is used to make smaller breasts look bigger.

Once the skin has been removed, the nipples and the breast tissue are moved up to their new position. There will be a round-shaped scar around each nipple. However, sometimes, a sagging breast can only be corrected with a breast augmentation.

When am I a suitable candidate for a breast lift?

Before the breast lift can be performed, you will need to meet with one of our consultants. They will listen to your wishes and expectations and give you advice as to which doctor is best suited for you. An appointment will then be made with the doctor who will perform the breast lift.

This doctor will examine your breasts and determine if it is medically responsible to perform the surgery. Should everything be okay, then your surgery can be scheduled. The law in the Netherlands stipulates that there must be at least a 7-day waiting period between the consultation with the doctor and your operation date.

NB: you must have paid for your treatment at least four weeks before your operation date.

BREAST LIFT

What can I expect after having a breast lift done using the doughnut technique?

When you have had a breast lift done, the aftercare is very important. You should take good care of yourself after the surgery. This will allow the wound to heal better, and you will also get better results.

The treated area will be swollen after the breast lift, and there may also be some bruising. These symptoms should go away after three days. Most people can go back to work the week after, but you should listen to your own body well. You may need longer to recover.

Make sure you avoid doing any heavy strenuous activities for the first two to three weeks after your surgery, to avoid straining your breasts. The scars can be very visible and fierce in colour for the first couple of months after the operation. However, they will eventually take on the colour of your skin. We always try to work as accurately as possible to make sure that the scars will be as small and discrete as possible.

Check-up

A member of the support staff from Care Clinic will contact you the day after your operation. They will inquire how you are doing and schedule your first check-up appointment, generally one week after your operation. Naturally, you are welcome to stop by before then or to contact us with any questions you may have.
Your second check-up will be after two weeks. The bandages will then be removed, and your wounds will be examined to see how well they are healing. After four weeks, during your third check-up, the sutures will be removed.

BREAST LIFT USING A PROSTHETIC

How is a breast lift done using a prosthetic?

Are you considering having a breast lift done using a prosthetic? Then you are at the right address. A breast lift is one of the most common breast operations in the Netherlands, and our specialised doctors will gladly help you. You will always be given a general anaesthetic for this surgery.

When performing a breast lift, excess skin is removed from the breast. This means that the breast will end up being a little smaller, which is why many people choose to have a breast lift done using a prosthetic. The prosthetic will make your breast larger. Once the skin has been removed, the nipples and the breast tissue are moved up to their new position. There will be a round-shaped scar around each nipple, and the wounds will be stitched using soluble sutures. Our doctors always try to work as accurately as possible to keep the scars to a minimum.

What are the advantages of having a breast lift done using a prosthetic?

  • You can have the operation done within two weeks
  • You will not lose any sensation in the nipples
  • Our doctors have many years of experience
  • The operation will take about 1,5 to two hours
  • The recovery period is two to three weeks
  • You will be given a general anaesthetic.
