hairline reduction

What is a hairline reduction?

Because the hairline is one of the main concerns for many trans women, we offer the hairline reduction. Dr. Verhaeghe brings out the hairline while also working on the forehead. However, patients with significant male pattern baldness may require hair transplant surgery.

What are the benefits of a hairline reduction?

  • No visible scars
  • More feminine face
  • No weakening of the skull
  • The hair density remains unchanged

How does a hairline reduction work?

This treatment is also performed under general anesthesia. The most efficient way to permanently lower your hairline is to move it as far as possible without any tension on the wound. Normally this means a displacement of 0.5 to 1 cm. If you have a flexible skull skin, a displacement of up to 2 cm is possible. An incision is made in the hairline during the procedure. The excess skin at the level of the forehead is removed. The hairy scalp is then brought forward, as far as the mobility of the scalp allows. Finally, the incision is attached. The treating physician will work with you for a natural hairline.

CONSULTATION

During your first consultation with the doctor, you can indicate what bothers you most and what exactly you want to change. Before your interview, photos will be taken for the medical record and to discuss with the surgeon during your interview. As a result, he will check whether you are a suitable candidate and will propose the most suitable treatment for you for feminizing the forehead. The surgeon explains what this technique entails and what you can expect as an end result.

This way you can make an informed decision about the desired hairline lowering. The surgeon will also ask about your health, medical background and possible medication use. If you are taking blood-thinning medication, you must stop this at least a week before the treatment.

During your consultation, the recovery period and any risks and complications will be discussed with you. After this, your consultation is summarized in a treatment plan and the total costs of the treatment are discussed with our consultant. The consultation takes about 60 minutes and aims to inform you as clearly and completely as possible about the hairline lowering

What can I expect after a hairline reduction?

After treatment, your skin may be red and slightly swollen. However, this is temporary. The surgery leaves a scar, but this can be hidden under the new hair growth. The skin may feel foreign to the body 3 to 12 months after the procedure. Visit our free consultation hours for more information.
