What is narrowing of the vagina?
Vaginal laxity or a stretched-out vagina can be the result of multiple births, excess weight, constipation, ageing or loss of muscle retention. The muscles have weakened, and there is little tone and strength. And with it no control.
If the vagina has been stretched-out, and the muscles of the perineum have weakened and have little support, it can have a negative effect on your sex life. A stretched-out vagina can also cause unwanted loss of urine. In such cases, narrowing of the vagina can be the solution.

When am I a suitable candidate to have my vagina narrowed?
You are a good candidate when, for example, you struggle with a stretched-out vagina after having given birth, resulting in reduced pleasure during sexual intercourse. You are also suitable when you struggle with stress-related incontinence during physical activities. Vaginal dryness can also be a good reason to consider having your vagina narrowed, as the dryness can cause sexual intercourse to be quite painful.
How is the vagina narrowed?
Narrowing the vagina takes one to two hours, and you will be admitted as a day patient. The procedure is carried out using a general anaesthetic, which means that you will be fully sedated and will not be awake during the procedure. You will go to sleep and wake up once the procedure to narrow the vagina has been completed.
Narrowing of the vagina (also known as perineoplasty) is a surgical procedure. The vagina is narrowed by bringing the muscles at the entrance of the vagina together. The opening will be narrower, and you will have more control of your muscles.

Naturally, you are free to ask any questions. The cosmetic gynaecologist will provide you with information on the procedure and can recommend which treatment best meets your needs.
What can I expect after having had my vagina narrowed?
You will stay in the clinic for a couple of hours after the surgery. As soon as you feel well enough, and the doctors have medically approved your discharge from the clinic, you may go home on the same day. You will return for a check-up with one of our consultants or the doctor who treated you, two weeks after the procedure.
You should experience improved sensation during sexual intercourse, and you should have less involuntary loss of urine. You will regain your self-confidence and have a better sex life.
Your body will need time to recover, though from the surgery. The recovery process will be gradual after having had your vagina narrowed. The initial improvements won’t be noticeable until after the first month. Although the effects are different for everyone, you should notice the results, three to six months after the procedure.
